Silicone hoses are commonly used in host of applications like industrial, automotive, medical and food processing. A wide variety of silicone rubber makes the product suitable for different usages in a number of places. Generally, hoses are used in air coolers and intake systems. The manufacturing process of silicone hoses requires a lot of skills along with a well-managed timing, materials and tools.

Let’s find out the manufacturing process of silicone hoses:

Step 1: Creating a Mandrel Tool

A mandrel tool is used to bend the silicone rubber in the shape of an appropriate silicone hose. This is also used in other applications such as a blowing glass. First of all make a mandrel tool in the shape of a silicone hose. It can be done by manipulating steel in a similar shape like hose.

Step 2: Selecting the Raw Materials

It is important to pick the right kinds of materials for manufacturing silicone hoses. These include reinforcement fabrics, color pigments and silicone rubber. Reinforcement fabrics and multi-layered are used to give more strength.

Step 3: Milling and Calendaring

The color pigments and silicone rubber compound are mixed together in a mill. The process is known as ‘milling’. In order to produce a color pigmented silicone rubber compound, it will take around half an hour.

Step 4: Cutting and Rolling

Thin sheets are cut and then piled to roll. For the better manufacturing, it is important to maintain an accurate thickness of tubes.
